Searching the HRM
Two methods are provided for searching the HRM, namely a Full HRM Search, and a Table of Contents Keyword Filter.
- Full HRM Search
- The Full HRM Search is a powerful search service provided using the GNWT's Google Search Appliance. It allows you to search the entire Human Resource Manual, including attachments, using Google's advanced search algorithms.
- Table of Contents Keyword Filter
- The Table of Contents Keyword Filter is intended to be used if you allready have a good idea of which HRM section you are looking for; and as such is intended for use primarily by Human Resources practitioners. The keyword filter operates by hiding any entries in the table of contents that do not contain all of the provided keywords. To restore the table of contents to normal, simply blank out the filter field, or reload the page.
Google Search Features
As the search function for the Human Resources Manual is powered by the GNWT's Google Search Appliance, you can make use of all advanced search functionality available using the appliance. For more information on the advanced search functionality provided by the Google Search Appliance, consult the User Help for the Google Search Appliance, most notably the Advanced Operators section.
For example, the following search returns only documents with the word "NWTTA" in the title:
Search Plugin
A Search Plugin will add a search engine to the list of available searches in the Search box in the top right-hand corner of the browser. The GNWT HRM Search plugin is based on the OpenSearch search description format and should work in most recent browser versions, including Microsoft Internet Explorer 7, and Mozilla Firefox 2.
To install the Search Plugin, click on the link below, and follow the instructions that appear.
Once you have installed the search plugin, you can then select GNWT HRM Search from the dropdown on the Search box in either Firefox (left) or Internet Explorer (right).

Firefox Search Keyword
A Firefox search keyword allows you to perform a search by typing your keyword, then your search terms in the location bar. To create a keyword for the HRM search, right click on the search field, and select Add a Keyword for this Search.
In the window that appears, enter a name for your search keyword. Your search keyword will appear in your bookmarks, so make sure you know which one it is. Once you have named your keyword, choose the keyword you want to use to reference the search - short and simple is probably better.
Click OK to save your keyword. You should now be able to search the Human Resources manual by typing your keyword followed by your search terms in the location bar.
As a point of interest, these instructions should also work for most search-like forms on the web - so feel free to try it out with your favorite web site.
