Graduate Employment for Teachers
The Government of the Northwest Territories encourages northern teacher graduates to return to the North to teach.
Northern graduates from recognized post-secondary teacher education programs are guaranteed employment with the GNWT. Please note that even though northern teacher graduates are guaranteed employment, they must still be found qualified and suitable for the positions they apply for.
Eligibility Criteria:
- you must meet the definition of a northern graduate;
- you must have completed your post-secondary program within the six months prior to being hired;
- the post-secondary program must be one of at least 4 semesters in length resulting in a college diploma or university diploma or degree; and
- you must have been registered in a full course load (normally 3 courses per semester) for the two semesters prior to graduating (accommodation can be made to recognize special circumstances for disabled students)
How to Apply:
- An Expression of Interest Form received on or before February 28, 2009 will get first consideration for hiring.
- Northern teacher graduates must apply online for teaching positions with NWT Education Councils/Boards at www.newteachersnwt.ca and may apply directly to the Divisional Education Council office(s) when employment opportunities are available.
- In addition, you must also register with Corporate Human Resource Services by completing an Expression of Interest Form and sending it, along with a current copy of your resume, to Casuals@gov.nt.ca by February 28, 2009.
- Divisional Education Councils will contact northern graduates who apply for teaching positions if the applicant’s educational background matches the vacant teaching positions being filled.
- Normal staffing processes, such as screening, interviewing, reference and criminal record checks are followed. As with all staffing in the GNWT, the Affirmative Action Policy is applied in staffing northern graduate teacher positions.
