Graduate Transition Program (Private Sector)
The Graduate Transition Program assists non-government employers who are prepared to make a commitment to hiring a Northern graduate for a one-year period.
Not all private sector employers know about the Graduate Transition Program. If you are interested in a private sector job, let the company or organization know about the program right away. The program provides an annual wage subsidy of up to $25,000, which is a good selling feature with potential employers.
Eligibility Criteria:
- you must meet the definition of a northern graduate
- you must have completed your post-secondary program within the six months prior to being hired;
- your post-secondary program must be one of at least 2 semesters in length resulting in a college certificate, diploma or university diploma or degree; and
- you must have been registered in a full course load (normally 3 courses per semester) for the two semesters prior to graduating (accommodation can be made to recognize special circumstances for disabled students)
How to Apply:
- An Expression of Interest Form received on or before December 31, 2007 will receive first consideration for participation in the Graduate Transition Program.
- Complete an Expression of Interest Form and send it, along with a current copy of your resume, to chrs@gov.nt.ca.
- Private Sector employers who want to hire Northern graduates contact GNWT Career Development Officers in their region to apply for a wage subsidy through the Graduate Transition Program.
- Career Development Officers will review each application to make sure that the work placement will provide the graduate with work experience relevant to their field of study.
- Where the placement meets the criteria, The application will be approved.
- The potential employer will contact you to discuss employment options.
