What do you do for the GNWT?
I develop, evaluate and forecast the Aurora College budget. I also monitor the College’s spending and ensure it is done in an efficient and appropriate manner. I manage all financial aspects of agreements Aurora College enters into with third parties, and I am responsible for the College’s professional development fund.
Has the GNWT supported your professional development and advancement?
Yes, throughout my career with the GNWT I have taken courses that have helped me further develop my skills and abilities. My supervisor at Education, Culture and Employment recognized my interest in accounting, and encouraged me to take additional accounting courses. Working at the Thebacha Campus of the College gave me access to various advanced management courses. This training, along with the work experience I have gained through the GNWT and Aurora College, has led to increasing job responsibilities.
Do you enjoy working for the GNWT?
I find working for the GNWT very rewarding as my job is always challenging. I feel a great sense of satisfaction when tasks are accomplished.
What would you recommend to someone applying on a GNWT position?
I would encourage them to apply and tell them there’s a great team spirit in the workplace and that there are great benefits to working for the GNWT.
